Mission and Outreach

Join us in OUTREACH at Church of the Good Shepherd!  We seek to reflect God’s Kingdom in the world, striving together to be the hearts, hands and feet of Jesus.  Outreach efforts in 2023 and 2024 include:

World Relief:  Annual financial donations to Episcopal Relief and Development for communities struggling with hunger, poverty, disaster, and disease.  Recent donations for humanitarian aid to the earthquake in Turkey/Syria, the Ukraine Crisis, and the Middle East Crisis.

Food Security Efforts:  Feeding South Dakota (volunteering and financial support), The Banquet (volunteering and financial support), Child Nutrition Services (contributions to school lunch fund for needy families).  Church of the Good Shepherd received a Campus Ministry grant to develop a food forest/garden on bare land on our lot.  Designs are in progress, and work will begin Spring 2024.

Clothing:  Union Gospel Mission.

Other Efforts:  Volunteering at Community Outreach Christmas store, The Banquet’s project SOS (collecting backpacks and school supplies for needy children), Humane Society donations, Family Connection (donation of games to facilitate interactions between inmates and their children), Church on the Street (kits for people living on the street and contributions to Laundry with Love), collect plastic bags which are woven into mats for the unhoused, collect eye glasses and hearing aids for the Lions organization, recognition of hospice workers with baskets of goodies, a walk event for Mission 22 (a suicide prevention organization for veterans), donations to Thunderhead Episcopal Camp, and organize an annual neighborhood block party.
