SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATE

Due to low attendance in Sunday School, the Spiritual Growth team and Vestry have been brainstorming how best to provide growth opportunities for our children.  We are moving to a home-based learning model where we will provide families with a monthly packet of Bible readings, discussion questions, and activities to do at home.  Seasonally we will bring the kids together for a party at church to learn about the various church seasons and what it means to us, like we did last fall with our First Communion class.  These parties will be opportunities for our kids to invite their friends to come celebrate and learn about the church season with them.  Look for our kids party coming up in Advent!  Contact the church if your kids or grandkids want a packet to learn Bible stories at home.

Outreach for the Vets

GIVING BACK..."Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me".

On Monday April 23rd ten gallons of chili soup and toppings, four 1/2 sheet pans of corn bread, crackers, cookies and brownies were delivered to the Veteran Outreach Center for their noon lunch.   When we arrived we were met by several Vets who helped us carry the food in and helped to get things set up.  Everyone expressed appreciation for a "home cooked" meal and we later learned that there was enough food for two days.  We were told that the soup was a "nice break" from the usual frozen foods they heat up for lunch.  It is with gratitude that I thanks the folks who came to the church on Saturday morning to make soup (Starla Pfeifer, Teri Johnson, Pauline,Randjit and Eugene, Mo. Christina and Steve Albrecht) and to those who made cookies or brownies (Cora Kuhlman, Tammy Briggs, Marlene Weires).  A special thank you to the Heavenly Comforter who covered the cost of the meal.  Submitted by Georgia Albrecht, Pastoral Care and Outreach Team leader.

Parishioner Mary Etheridge sits with the completed quilts that will go to Sanford's Ava House to be given to children in hospice. Many thanks to Mary for purchasing the quilt tops and for Billie Taylor from Calvary Cathedral for sewing them. What a wonderful ministry this is.

Ava’s House by Sanford,  provides 24-hour nursing care to patients of all ages in a home-like environment. It will ensure that patients have a comforting place to turn when symptoms and pain are beyond the scope of care currently provided at the Sanford Hospice Cottages or delivered in the hospital, long-term care facilities or in-home settings. Ava's House will feature 16 adult patient rooms and 4 pediatric patient rooms.

Honoring its namesake, Ava Holder, who passed away at 4 years old after a courageous battle against cancer, Ava’s House offers one of only four in-patient pediatric hospice programs in the country.
